This may be possible if you are visiting the main tourist areas of some countries, but if you find yourself in towns that are not regularly visited by foreigners you will have difficulty in communicating with the locals. By learning a foreign language you will find that you will get much more out of your visit to a foreign country.

1. Holidays: These days more of us travel abroad on our vacations, and to a greater number of countries than ever before. Over recent years several destinations have opened their borders and now welcome tourists, however, you will find that these newer destinations will speak mainly in their own language and you may have trouble in getting your point across.

2. Working Abroad: I'm sure that it has not gone unnoticed that there is a far greater movement between borders with the workforce of some countries. You may be considering broadening your horizons and looking for employment in another country. It will be far easier to obtain a job abroad if you can speak their language when you apply for a position. It will show a greater degree of commitment and you are far likelier to be successful in obtaining employment.

3. Relationships: In these days of increased international travel there is more chance of mixed relationships than ever. How much easier would it be for you if you could communicate in a common language. If the relationship develops and you get to meet your partners family, think how impressed they will be if you can speak to them in their own language.

4. Business: Learning a foreign language is a must if you are dealing with a particular country on a regular basis. Although you can use the services of a translator you will get a far better understanding of your overseas clients or colleagues true thoughts if you can communicate with them direct in their own language. Apart from talking with them, in business it is also important to be able to read in a foreign language as contracts may not always be in your own.

5. Social Life: As we have already covered, people are travelling around the globe more than ever today and it is possible that your circle of friends and work colleagues may come from another country and may not speak your language as well as they would like to. Wouldn't it be a nice gesture if you were to make the effort to learn their language so that you could improve your communications with them and help them to speak yours.
